Christmas and Krampus in Munich

Christmas Markets in Munich

In Munich between November 24th and December 27th? You are? Perfect timing: your trip coincides with the famous Christmas markets!

Marienplatz Christmas Market

Tracing its origins back the 14th century,  today the markets offer visitors traditional handicrafts, music, entertainments and delicious things to eat and drink: we recommend you try the delicious “Glühwein” – hot spiced wine punch.

Spread over several neighbourhoods, the main market is in the central square of Munich – Marienplatz. In addition to the various stalls, at 5.30 everyday (12pm on the 24th) there will be live music being performed on the balcony of the New Town Hall.

Have you been good this year?

You see here in Bavaria and the Alps, those who have been naughty face – not not having any gifts for Christmas – but being eaten by the terrible half-goat, half-demon monster known as Krampus.

Come and meet Krampus in MunichKrampus and his fellow terrifying pals will be parading through Munich twice in December.

The larger Krampus Run will through the Munich Christmas Market on December 8, from 3pm onwards. A smaller run, with members from the Munich Krampus group “Sparifankerl-Pass” will take place on December 22.

Tours during Yule and New Year

Dark History are running tours during the holiday season, including the mornings of the 24th and 25th. We regret that we are unable to take guests to the Dachau Memorial during this period – poignant though the Memorial is at times when many people are celebrating. We will however be running tours in Munich. Please note that for the majority of people in Germany, the 24th – not the 25th – is the big day and most places will shut around midday or slightly later.
