JOIN US FOR A GRISLY TOUR THIS HALLOWEEN WEEKEND (29rd-31st)
COME IN COSTUME FOR A CHANCE TO WIN A (BOOZY) PRIZE
Friday and Saturday have proved to be very popular and we are sorry that we can accept no more bookings for either day. Sunday has plenty of space though. Please contact us via email
Covid: your guide is double vaccinated. As the tour is entirely outside, we are not enforcing the German “3G” rule. You are free to wear a mask if you wish.In tours with multiple small groups or couples, keeping a bit of distance is advised: use your common sense. Since the tour involves some “hands-on” elements with artefacts and a sword or two, we recommend that you bring a small bottle of hand sanitiser.
A unique hands-on historical and archaeological tour in English.
There is more to Munich than beer, pretzels and lederhosen. Beneath the veneer of a modern European city is another Munich, remote – and yet still here, within touching distance, if you know where to find it….
This is not a ghost tour – all the events – every single bone-crunching last one of them – actually happened.
Join Hans von Spanker and The Wench for a (sometimes irreverent) look at:
The Black Death and other nasties
Medieval architecture and defences
Aspects of Jewish medieval history
Infamous witch trials
Traditions and folklore
The impact of the 30 Years War in Munich
Ancient burial rites
Secrets of the sword: lessons from Hans Thalhoffer (A medieval fencing master – like Yoda, but taller)
Why was beer so important? Try an authentic medieval brew or two
Everyday life – class, trade, the guilds
And much more besides….
Cost?: €18, €17 concessions (Students, seniors 65+, serving or ex-military and/or first responders). Booking essential. Can´t pay online? Drop us an email in the first instance
When? Friday starting at 6pm
Saturday and Sunday at 4pm
How long? Give yourself about 2.5. We don´t watch the clock like hawks
Where? We start and finish at the Fish Fountain, located on the right-hand side of the New Town Hall in Marienplatz. Look for your costumed guide holding a sign reading “Munich Macabre”
Notes: Some of the content of this tour may not be suitable for very young children or those of a sensitive disposition
Autumn and Winter in Munich can be cold: please dress appropriately. On particularly cold days we’ll bring some mulled wine in addition to beer samples
The tour runs to about 2,5 hours, although with larger groups it can last a little longer
